This workshop was administrated by the Center for Civic Education Indonesia (CCEI) cooperation with Education Faculty of Pattimura University and Education and Sport Office of Ambon City and funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor

I. Facts
- The goal of this Kami Bangsa Indonesia (KBI) training was to introduce the program to the civic education teachers in conflict and post conflict areas - Ambon, Maluku.
- Interfaith conflicts in tiny Ambon island have caused thousands of deaths over the last ten years. The conflict brought trauma for the Ambonese because it has often raised fights between members of single families. In Ambon, the member of a family very often have different faiths.
Quotes:

- I’m very happy to join the KBI training to get new experiences and teaching methods that are indeed useful for my teaching in the future. (Thomas Tetkily, SMPN 9 Ambon)
- I really thank CCE Indonesia for holding this KBI training in Ambon and for many new things we learned, especially for the portfolio method. (A. Kudubun, SMP Kartika XIII-1, Ambon)
II. Personal Perspective (Acih Sari, CCEI Program Coordinator)
Forty four participants from 35 schools attended the KBI training which was held in 22-24 January 2008 at PGSD hall of Education Faculty of Pattimura University. The training was opened by welcome speeches from the vice dean of Education Faculty of Pattimura University, the head of Education and Sport Office of Ambon and the Consul General from Surabaya, Caryn McClelland. On the first day of the training the participants got information about the sixes step in KBI program and did each step seriously. After a voting process, the problem of students who can’t come regularly to school because of their family economic problem and the bad condition of schools library were chosen as class studied cases.
The teachers who teach in 20 public and 15 private schools were divided into 8 groups. In order to get more information about their class studied cases, every 2 groups interviewed principals of their schools, school librarian and also community and religious leaders in their community. They came to the training hall with the filled interview sheets and share the information with the other groups.

It was nice to see the teachers working together after the interfaith conflict that happened in 1999, and cause up to 10.000 deaths. Hundred of offices, houses and the entire traditional markets were burned. In conclusion, I found that all participants were very serious in making the portfolios and when they did the showcase and they also asked many critical questions about how to integrate KBI program in national curriculum and why provinces have no autonomy in designing local education. They seemed enthusiastic to implement the KBI program in their classrooms and look forward to join the showcase that will be held on May 2008.
