PRAKTIK BELAJAR KEWARGANEGARAAN – KAMI BANGSA INDONESIA TRAINING FOR LAST SEMESTER STUDENTS OF CIVIC EDUCATION IN MEDAN STATE UNIVERSITY, NORTH SUMATERA,
28 – 30 APRIL 2006
I. Introduction
The KBI Training this time was different from the previous ones, since the participants were students who are civic education teachers-to be in the future. They went to a village called Sembahe in Namorambe district about 35 km from Medan, North Sumatra. The view in this village was so beautiful in the past, the rivers are full of various kinds of fish and the forests are green. But then, the villagers used bomb to catch fish so that their numbers and kinds decrease a lot. The temperature goes high since the villagers cut trees in the forests without planning. Now some local NGOs came to that site, trying to give training and explanations to the villagers about the problems. The students find this matter interesting, so they come to the village and by using Project Citizen method, they see the problems in their own view, discuss the problems, try to approach the villagers and find solutions to the problems.
The training was located in BITRA Training Center. BITRA (Villagers Skills Training and Assistance) is a local NGO who tries to approach and give training to the villagers on how they improve the life quality.
