Akeelah and the Bee
A Novel-Launching and Spelling Bee Competition

CCE Indonesia (CCEI) working with six local universities and colleges held “Akeelah and the Bee” – a book launch and spelling bee competition, sponsored by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy Jakarta, The goal of the program, in addition to introducing a novel entitled Akeelah, is to promote students’ language proficiency, especially in spelling. This event, held in November and December 2008, was participated by Junior High School students from six regions in Indonesia—Jambi, Jakarta, Banten, Pontianak, Malang, and Sorong.

English Camp 2007

Sponsored by US Department of State and administered by US Embassy and CCE Indonesia, the English Camp 2007 started with the selection process by determining seven regions at all over Indonesia, there are Aceh (Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam), Medan (North Sumatra), Banten, Solo (West Java), Surabaya (East Java), Kendari (South Sulawesi), and Jayapura (Papua). Based on the recommendation from US Consulate General in Surabaya, US Embassy Medan office in Medan and CCE Indonesia's consultants in Aceh, Banten, Kendari, and Papua there were selected the best three schools from each region, and then CCE Indonesia made requirements for the participants...

The Tanonaka International Journalist Scholarship (TIJS)

Students with an interest in becoming international journalists may apply for a newly-created scholarship.  “The Tanonaka International Journalist Scholarship” will be given to a deserving student who meets program criteria and demonstrates need. The scholarship is being provided by Dalton Tanonaka, the co-anchor of Metro TV's groundbreaking weekly English-language program “Indonesia Now.”  Tanonaka joined Metro TV in June 2006, having previously worked for CNN International, CNBC Asia and NHK in Tokyo.  He is also a columnist for the Jakarta Post Weekender Magazine.
