CCE Indonesia operational highlights 2001-2008:
Numbers. In a little over three years, CCE has trained more than 5300 teachers in innovative civic education instructional strategies, these teachers have gone on to teach over 324,000 students in pesantrens, madrasah, Catholic, public and private schools.

Reach. In 17 provinces, CCE has conducted teacher training in locations that literally reach from end to end across the vast Indonesian archipelago. Shortly after the Tsunami crisis this year, CCE conducted teacher training in Aceh, Indonesia's North-westernmost province. At the Easternmost part of the archipelago, CCE has trained teachers in the Bird's Head Peninsula of Papua, a site that, from Jakarta, requires four plane flights and a five-hour boat journey.

Partners. In addition to an excellent working relationship with the Indonesian National Ministry of Education, CCE has developed extensive and productive partnerships with Nahdatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah, Indonesia's, and indeed the World's, largest Islamic organizations. Both organizations have partnered with CCE in a meaningful way - dedicating financial resources, teacher time and facilities to CCE teacher training.

Network. At over 25 universities across Indonesia, CCE has created a responsive network of teacher trainers, who not only train in-service teachers in the field, but are also training their own pre-service teachers in student-centered and democratic civic education strategies.
Youth Leadership Exchanges. For two years, students from pesantrens, public and private schools across Indonesia have participated in programs where CCE has identified, recruited, managed and selected participants to participate in democracy and civic education leaders programs. These programs take place in Southern Virginia and Washington D.C., in conjunction with our partner organization Legacy International. Students not only learn about civic education and democracy, but also meet Americans in their homes and workplaces.

School and Community Leaders Visitors Programs. CCE, in cooperation with its partners at NU and Muhammadiyah, and other organizations, will manage Indonesia operations for the US State Department's Indonesian Schools and Community Leaders visitors program this year. In these program, school leaders, many of them Kyai, or Islamic spiritual and political leaders, will have the opportunity to visit the United States, live with host families, study American approaches to education, meet American counterparts and see the United States through their own eyes.
